The newer ones (the "blue" Keypads?) have the back of the KP bolted to the flushmount. I just installed mine, and it appears that it was designed to have one corner of the KP slightly farther out from the frame so that you can pry the front of the KP off. I was a bit worried about how to get it back out until I noticed this.
You are right about the press fit for the old ones ( "green" keypads)..They just pressure fit in .
