my understanding (and I am NOT a HVAC expert) is that you can do this but
they have to be in a master/slave relationship. The unit is wired to the
master tstat and the other tstat (the slave) is wired to the master.
what you really should do, IMHO, is zone your HVAC system. I have 3 units,
each one has 3 zones for a total of 9 separate heating/cooling zones, each
with their own tstat. If you go this route, you will need a zone controller
(at the unit which the tstats connect to and also runs the damper motors) a
damper motor for each zone (to open/close the duct(s) feeding the room(s))
and a pressure relief value. This is pretty straight-forward and any HVAC
installation company worth their salt knows how to do this. Once the system
is in place and tuned, it works very well.
