I've successfully build temperature sensor based on Atmel
microcontroller and Dallas 18B20 temperature sensor. The sensor accuracy
is +- 0.5C from -10 to 85C. Google for the datasheet and you'll get the
communication protocol between the sensor and microcontroller.
HAI takes frequency input for both the temperature and humidity, no
specific protocol for the communication. freq = (degF*4)/30.
If you want to build the combined temperature and humidity sensor, you
might want to check Sensirion products.
