[Hai-users] Web-Link II with Decoder ver. 9

There are a number of differences between version 7 and 9 of Microsoft's
Encoder application...all good improvements (particularly with the image
quality) but the automation aspects of the tv tuners make it difficult
for Web-Link or any other application utilizing the encoders programming
interfaces. This doesn't mean it won't work...I have it running at my
house but there doesn't seem to be a consistent enough story behind the
configuration to get it working consistently. The factors that come
into play are the tv tuner card, it's corresponding driver, version of
DirectShow and any other glue that works it's way into the pipeline.
A couple of things to verify before you even try to get Video-Link
working are to install all the latest drivers and DirectShow and then
get it working within the Windows Media Encoder. Make sure that you can
change channels on the fly consistently and that it can run over a
period of time (give it a couple of day of constant abuse). Once that
works, there is a good probability that Video-Link is going to work.
Also, if you install the v9 encoder AFTER you install Web-Link you'll
want to install Web-Link again...Web-Link's setup program changes some
of the encoder's registry keys to correct for an incorrect threading
model configuration in the encoder.
I'm not familiar with the particular tv tuner card you have but if you
get it working I'm sure others would be interested in the configuration
you have.

Subject: [Hai-users] Web-Link II with Decoder ver. 9
Sorry if this beginning to a string has already appeared...I somewhat
remember it but cannot remember the details. I use Web-Link II and
Video Link in a number of houses, all with the Hauppauge PCI video
board. I'm not crazy with the Hauppage board and wanted to try some
better models. Trying the AVI PCI Board, but Microsoft Decoder ver. 7
doesn't support it. So, upgraded to the Decoder ver. 9, and the Board
and the decoder work great (with many great features that the Hauppage
board doesn't support). Haven't yet programmed Web-Link II with it, but
wondered if anyone has used the Decoder ver. 9 with Web-Link II. I
vaguely remember a time when we were deinstalling the new decoder
(forget the version) from Microsoft to revert back to ver. 7 to be
compatible with Web-Link. Anyone using ver. 9 successfully?
Many thanks for any and all help.
