[Hai-users] VOIP Phone Service

I have my OP2 plugged into a Vonage ATA and it works flawlessly. My biggest
problem, of course, is when my Internet connection goes out (cable modem),
my consoles start freaking out when the system can't detect dial tone.

I have an alternative way of sending out alarm signals (wireless), so this
isn't a major concern of mine, but it's important to remember that VoIP is
not nearly as reliable/secure as a hard-wired phone line. You have to
remember to put a big (and I mean *big*) UPS on the ATA so you don't lose
phone service when you lose power -- most consumer-grade UPS' won't last 12
hours with an ATA on them.

Of course, on the flipside, if you have a cable modem and someone cuts the
phone lines entering the premises, you still have phone service to the Omni.
:)
