It is mounted overlooking a large room with a very large jade plant in the window (no pets and no capability of other motion). Question: Can the leaves heat up from the sun and then if one falls, is this capable of setting off the IR detector? If so, any suggestions to work around (ie. would the SENRCR-A range-controlled radar detector from Worthington work better in this instance)?

FWIW, you should never aim a PIR at a window or at something which
reflects light from a window. Shadows are a bigger problem. Most
PIRs are zoned and you can cover up questionable zones in the sensor
with stick on tape. I'm not familiar with Viscoral, but I'm sure they
cover this and testing in the directions.
